Every grandchild loves their little old gran, no doubt, but I personally hold a deep sense gratitude for the values and characteristics mine has passed down to me. In my grandma was a strength, independence, intelligence and, yes, stubbornness, that has left an indelible mark. This was an unassuming woman who grew up on the streets during the Great Depression, lived through the uncertainty World War II, beat cancer, and gave her all to a husband, four children and eight grandchildren (not to mention great-grandchildren). This was a woman who never showed the true extent of her frailty, and never really lost her independence before she passed away, only a matter of days after I’d taken the first photos of this series. As such, this is the story of my grandmother’s legacy, and a family coming to terms with the loss of their anchor.
